How does Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression therapy work?

NSSD Therapy can isolate each cervical (C1-C7) or lumbar vertebrae (L1, L2, L3, L4 or L5) and distract the vertebrae surrounding an injured disc 5 to 7 millimeters. The 25 to 30 minute treatments provide static, intermittent, and cycling forces on structures that are the cause of neck and low back pain. The sophisticated feedback mechanism used by the Accu-Spina monitors the patient's muscular tension and releases pulling forces until the patient relaxes. Once the patient relaxes, the Accu-Spina can resume its pull. This allows a deeper, truer decompression that focuses specifically on the targeted injured area.

During treatment, intradiscal pressure is dropped from a positive 40 millimeters mercury to a negative 150 millimeters mercury. This negative pressure promotes a hydraulic diffusion of water, oxygen, blood cells and nutrients into the vertebral disc area, thereby re-hydrating the degenerated disc. Repeated decompression promotes retraction of a herniated nucleus pulposus (the elastic core of the intervertebral disc).

The decompressive therapy stimulates repair of the surrounding soft tissues including; injured ligaments, tendons and muscles that may be impinging upon the nerve.

Therapy usually requires time and each treatment is accumulative building up from the last.
