How Chiropractic Works like Yoga

Those of you that are yoga fans will be happy to know that yoga and chiropractic have a lot in common! The practice of yoga utilizes specific techniques to release old patterns, thereby allowing you to more clearly express your inner truth. Similarly, the intention with chiropractic is to release interference to your nervous system that is blocking your innate or inborn intelligence from expressing itself as health.

The nervous system is the control system of the whole body, therefore interference is a source of Dis-ease. If you release the interference, your body’s innate intelligence is able to restore balance and health.

By improving the flexibility of the spine and body, both yoga and chiropractic balance and breathe energy into your central nervous system. That’s why doing yoga or getting chiropractic feels so good!

If you have been doing yoga for a long time you know that you can get great benefit from one class or two but the real rewards are in a daily practice. Same principle applies to chiropractic. The true power of Chiropractic is not just about getting short term relief, but about maintaining vitality, energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and radiance!

Can Acupuncture Help you in Bed?

In a word, YES.  Chinese medicine has a long history of helping people ignite their libidos.  From the Chinese medical model, a lagging sex drive is the result of an imbalance of the kidney and heart systems, which parallel the endocrine system in Western medicine.  Basically this means that the hormones are out-of-order and that certain biochemical processes are not functioning at optimum.

So don’t worry, it’s not just your busy life, or that you’re getting older.  There are physiological functions at play here that can be improved with acupuncture and herbs.

Acupuncture directs electrical energy through your nervous system.  This helps your endocrine organs to communicate better with each other, thereby balancing your hormones.  As an added bonus, acupuncture also increases blood flow to the pelvic area, which increases arousal and performance.  So if you want to want to bring the va-va-va boom back to your bedroom, give acupuncture a try today!

Four Ways to Beat Allergies Naturally

Ah Spring, the flowers, the bees, the lovely dance of nature, and the ah- ah – ah – ah-CHOO!  If you’re a sneezy, sniffly mess this time of year try out a few of these ways to cut down on your allergies

1. Watch local weather for pollen counts.  When pollen counts are high make sure to wear sunglasses to limit pollen exposure, and wash your hands and face when coming in from outside.  Also, take a shower before you go to bed to wash off pollens before they make it onto your sheets and pillow cases.

2. Take quercetin and bromelain.  Quercetin is a natural anti-histamine that occurs in plants, and common vegetables.  Bromelain, is an enzyme found in pineapples that greatly reduced inflammation, meaning less nasal congestion for you!

3. Eat local raw honey.  Local honey contains the pollen of the local plants.  Eating the honey gradually gets your body de-sensitized to pollens in your area thereby reducing allergic reactions.

4. Cut out processed and sugary foods.  This is a good idea anyway, but cutting out the junk foods reduces the amount of inflammation in your body.  That makes your body less reactive to allergens.

Hurrah!  It looks like the hospitals are finally figuring out what the rest of us have known for years.  Acupuncture works!  It improves the outcomes of surgeries.  It reduces pain, swelling, the after-effects of anesthesia, and recovery time.

So if you have to get surgery and you don’t want to spend a bunch of your time sitting on your butt afterwards, get some acupuncture.  You’ll be happy you did.

Will an Adjustment Hurt Your Neck?

A few days ago a patient with whiplash symptoms from a rear- end car accident asked me if a chiropractic adjustment was going to hurt her neck.

She was concerned because she is part of the 10% of the population with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome. This means that, with little effort she is able to move her joints beyond what is considered a normal range of motion.

Whiplash accidents will be more traumatic for these patients. The mobility and looseness of their joints leaves them vulnerable to more damage from sudden force. Therefore it was reasonable for this patient to worry that a chiropractic adjustment, which is often moving a joint past its restriction, would cause further injury. (more…)

Acupuncture Shines in the Treatment of Migraines

Do you have migraines?  If you do, you know that they can ruin your day, or worse, several of your days at a time.   Yesterday one of my patients mentioned to me that she had had a migraine earlier in the week.  This actually happens to her quite regularly.  Out of the blue a killer migraine will sucker punch her and she’s down for the count.  She has to go home draw the blinds, and curl up in a ball of pain for the rest of the day.  (more…)

Is Your JOB Destroying Your Joints?

MRI with disc bulge, degeneration

Have you recently gone to bed with a sore back and woke up with your pain even worse? You ask yourself, is this really a result of pulling weeds from the garden over the weekend?

Unfortunately, the answer is most likely yes. Of course there are probably a series of events that have led your back to this end.  Pain is not a sound indicator of the cause of a health problem. Usually, as the expression goes, ‘It’s just the tip of the iceberg.’ (more…)
